QuickBooks to Implement International Payments Fee

At the end of May Insightful Accountant told you about price hikes coming to QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop as well as both Online Payroll and Desktop Payroll.  Now, Intuit has just announced a price adjustment impacting certain QuickBooks Payments transactions.

Effective August 5, 2025, Intuit will change pricing for QuickBooks Payments on international transactions. They will implement an additional 1% fee on all international 'card' transactions. This new fee only impacts 'international' transactions, it does NOT impact any domestic transactions.

The new 'international fee' is being implemented due to "rising costs associated with cross-border transactions." Intuit announced it aligns with standard industry practices which many other payment processors have already implemented on international card transactions.

While the current payment rates for domestic transactions will remain the same, the new fee will apply to all transactions where an 'international' (non-U.S.-issued) card is used. The new 'international card' fee is 1% of the total transaction (in addition to the standard fee).

If the total transaction is $100.00, then the new fee will be $1.00 (in addition to the standard fee). If the total transaction is $1,000.00, then the new fee will be $10.00 (in addition to the standard fee). If the transaction is $10,000.00, then the new fee would be $100.00 (in addition to the standard fee).

Merchants need not take any action, the fee will be implemented automatically as of August 5, 2025.
