The ProAdvisor Awards are hard-earned. Some people work for years to earn status as one of the Top ProAdvisors, whether they make the Top 100 U.S. Advisors list, the Top 50 International Advisors list, or the Top 25 Up-n-comer Advisors list. But you can achieve this recognition if you apply yourself.
When I use the term "apply yourself," I am using it in two ways:
First, I mean just that... "Apply for the Awards". You don't have to be nominated, and while it might seem 'nice' that someone else thought enough to nominate you, the reality is that it doesn't change the outcome of whether you make the list or not. Only the 'Application Process' can result in you achieving a ranking based on the various categorical scoring criteria of the Awards. And you are the only person who can complete your application.
Fifteen years ago, about 80% of Top ProAdvisors were 'nominated' by other advisors; however, today, only about 20% of ProAdvisors are nominated, while 80% apply directly. So by all means, "Apply Yourself" for the Awards.
Second, I mean you must "apply yourself" during the application process. It's been simplified significantly this year (in my opinion). For example:
- We let you tell us the training you have taken... "apply yourself" to taking as much training related to the profession as possible, and "apply yourself" in making sure to 'list it all.' Every CPE, every CE, and every hour of training (for which no CPE or CE was issued) turns into valuable points that present you in the best light. Last year, 0.28 points separated the two applicants ranked first and second in a major award category. That's less than 'one' CPE/CE/Hourly training award point, and it illustrates why it is critical to "apply yourself" in listing all your training 'assets.'
- We also let you tell us all about the various Apps and 3rd-party Software you use as part of the Intuit QuickBooks Ecosystem. In case you don't realize it, Apps represent a 'wealth of opportunity' for you to build your ProAdvisor practice if you only "Apply yourself." The problem with having a traditional 'tech stack' is that it tends to limit your App-ology (the practice of Apps) to only those apps. Instead, every time a 'new App' comes along that is even remotely associated with your specialization (niche) or practice focus, or that might work better for one of your clients, you need to "apply yourself" by exploring it, giving it a trial run, and maybe even getting certified. For purposes of the ProAdvisor Awards, "the more Apps, the merrier." You score more points for every App you use, every App you refer (or resell), every App your firm uses as a whole, every App you get certified in, and every App you implement over the course of the year.
The ProAdvisor Awards are hard-earned. The ProAdvisor Awards are merit-based, based on how you "apply yourself" to achieve the accomplishments you have achieved. It takes a lot of accomplishments to be recognized. But still, you can get there if you only "apply yourself."
So, "Apply Yourself" today. Insightful Accountant is currently accepting applications for the Top 100 U.S. ProAdvisors, the Top 25 Up-n-coming ProAdvisors, the Top 50 International ProAdvisors, and the Top 25 Tax Advisors (a new award group for 2026). You can "apply yourself" using the link below, or you can nominate a fellow advisor if you choose.
