At our recent QBTalks‑Apps show, the QuickBooks Payroll team shared how the product has evolved far beyond basic payroll.
This shift was reflected a few years ago when the employee app was renamed QuickBooks Workforce, emphasizing a broader focus on supporting the entire workforce, not just payroll.

some features limited to Premium and Elite. These changes introduce a centralized hub that improves visibility across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, time‑off requests, performance management, HR workflows, and benefits management. Together, these enhancements position QuickBooks Payroll as a unified HR and payroll platform.

New agentic‑AI Payroll Agents will further automate payroll, tax filing, and compliance for employees and contractors, helping save time, improve accuracy, and reduce administrative costs.

Certified Payroll Reports, required for Davis‑Bacon and related Act compliance, can now (or soon will) be generated directly for employees working on government‑funded projects—eliminating the need for separate tools or manual Excel processes.

Additionally, QuickBooks can automatically pay and file federal, state, and local payroll taxes. An enhanced payroll tax agent helps accelerate setup and ensure full compliance by automatically withdrawing tax liabilities with each payroll run.
