What's New in Xero
Xero is on hand wherever the work happens, helping you start from a stronger place... it is wherever you are working.
Where you could once look back at a client’s last month, now you can inquire if the client will have enough cash next Friday and see what is driving the answer before your next conversation.
And you may be asking yourself what's driving all of this change? How are we moving so quickly from retrospective compliance accounting to forward-looking advisory?
Certainly, the availability of Xero's JAX is a starting point, but the fact that JAX is now available across Claude, Copilot and ChatGPT with linkage to Xero is fueling the accelerated capabilities of not only working wherever you are working, but however you are working. And with JAX now performing more of the routines of compliance accounting, through increased accuracy in extraction of documents like bills and receipts coupled with matching of existing transactions, the mundane tasks of accounting are becoming streamlined to lessen tedious work.
Combine that with JAX powering auto bank reconciliation at a higher level of confidence than ever before and the end-of-month is but a point-in-time which you oversee and use as a starting point for one of those forward-looking advisory consultations with your Xero clients.
JAX and the wider set of updates in this quarter's edition show where Xero is heading. They are bringing more of the work, data and insights together, and preparing more 'of the accounting' for your oversight and approval. That means you can step into client conversations with trusted information and clearer signals while the judgement and advice remain yours.
The work of 'accounting' is not disappearing; it's simply changing shape. Reconciling becomes reviewing. Chasing becomes checking. Questions can be answered closer to the moment they arise. And you, the accountant, remain the person your clients trust to make sense of the numbers and decide together what needs to happen next.
Auto-match Documents
Smart Document Capture (SDC), powered by JAX, picks up more of the work of invoice matching, sorting out receipts, tracking expenses, and capturing the right numbers, creating transactions when needed, and matching to existing records.
SDC can now extract more details from more types of documents - automatic tax extraction pulls your tax rate straight off it, across every line rather than just the total, so it's already sitting there when you check the transaction, and uploading a credit note now flows through the same extraction into a drafted transaction, so refunds and adjustments don't mean starting from scratch. And when a document's contact, total and date line up exactly with an existing transaction, auto-match attaches it and moves it straight to matched - which you can toggle to turn it on or off at any time. Auto Bank Reconciliation
How does saving 50% of the time it has taken in the past to reconcile your bank accounts? With the recent improvements Xero has made to Auto Bank Reconciliation, powered by JAX, more of the routine transactions are done for you, leaving you time for review and approval. Recurring payments, transfers between your bank accounts, and the most common of your banking tasks are reconciled during review with a higher level of confidence. The new display shows how every auto-reconciliation line was cleared...'match, rule, memory, or prediction', along with a brief explanation when you hover over them to see the 'why', not just the how of the reconcile.
And, as in the past, your corrections help Auto Reconcile learn and adapt to the way the client's books should be kept. Want to learn more about these feature enhancements, check them out HERE.
Let Jax 'Dun' Your Customers
Who doesn't hate having to chase down customers over an unpaid invoice? But the reality is that 50+ percent of invoices issued by small businesses are past due by the time they are finally paid. But now, 'JAX' can handle the time-consuming, awkward tasks of following up on late payments.
When JAX is on the job, it develops a plan to determine who needs collection efforts. It then sends follow-up emails before and after the invoice due date, using the power of its AI to write professional, friendly email reminders on your behalf. The moment the customer's payment is received; JAX's auto-collection efforts cease for that customer. Even with JAX doing the heavy lifting of past due collections, you say in control, you can pause or stop the collection efforts JAX has planned at any time. Enhanced Permissions
This quarter's rollout sees enhanced permissions with new user permissions giving you more control over what your team can see and do across banking, inventory and reporting. You can let your sales or purchasing staff check and adjust inventory levels without seeing the related financial data. You can open up sales and purchasing reports by assigning enhanced Reporting Center functionality to those team members you determine need that kind of access. You can restrict access to bank balances, statement lines, and bank feeds from users who shouldn't have access. And much more. It's one of the things that Xero users, as well as Xero Accountants have been asking for, and while it's just a small change, it has the potential of having a big impact on the way you and your clients do their work. You can learn more about this enhanced functionality, and see it in action HERE.
