September's QBTalks: Migrating from QuickBooks Desktop

Written by William Murphy | Sep 8, 2026, 4:45:00 AM

During the September 16, 2026, QBTalks show at 2:00 PM Eastern, Murph will be discussing the migration of QuickBooks Desktop files.

Murph will focus on Desktop clients that are right for migration and on building a plan that is right for each client and firmly establishing a timeline by which migration will take place, as well as the follow-up. Murph will also discuss the importance of ProAdvisors fully understanding the needs and workflows of their migration clients prior to migration, ensuring that integrated applications are capable of transitioning (if they will still be required after migration), and how to build confidence among the Desktop users that they will ‘not be left behind’ by transitioning to “the cloud.”

Murph's focus then turns to a review of ‘essential’ Pre-migration tasks associated with preparing any QuickBooks Desktop file for migration. Recommended migration methods for both QuickBooks Desktop Pro/Premier and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise will be presented along with the necessity for one or more ‘test migrations’ prior to the actual ‘switch-over’.

Lastly the webinar will examine ‘critical’ post-migration tasks along with corrective actions for some of the most common migration errors. While the webinar addresses these areas in terms of migrating from QuickBooks Desktop software to QuickBooks Online solutions, the principles apply even if a Desktop Client chooses to migrate to an alternative cloud-based solution.

Primary topics presented during the webinar include:

    • Determining Clients that are right to migrate

    • Developing a migration plan and timeline

    • Building migration confidence among Desktop users

    • Ensuring client workflows and requirements are met by migration

    • Verify 3rd-party integrations can migrate

    • Essential pre-migration tasks

    • Migration methods for Desktop Pro/Premier and Desktop Enterprise

    • Importance of ‘test migrations’

    • Critical post-migration tasks
