Sage and Artis Trade Expand Strategic Partnership

Written by William Murphy | Aug 7, 2025 4:45:00 AM

Sage, a leader in accounting, financial, HR and payroll technology for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), has announced an expanded partnership with Artis Trade Systems to provide U.S. secured lenders with a new solution that delivers instant insights into customer financial health, helping reduce credit risk and speed up lending decisions.

Artis Trade becomes the first partner in North America to adopt Sage Embedded Services since the service expanded to the region in May 2025, integrating core accounting capabilities directly into its secured lending platform.

After a successful collaboration last year that saw Artis use Sage’s embedded AI to streamline critical financial document processing,  the two companies are deepening their partnership to transform how financial institutions and small businesses collaborate. By unlocking real-time accounting insights, they're paving the way for faster, smarter decision-making and greater efficiency across the lending ecosystem.

“Expanding our partnership with Sage was a clear next step after seeing the impact of embedded AI on our platform,” said Jamie Clemons, CEO, Artis. “This integration gives lenders real-time visibility and helps small businesses make better financial decisions, all within the same system they already trust. It’s a natural evolution that strengthens our offering and supports the next generation of secured lending.”

The integration brings essential accounting capabilities directly into the Artis Trade platform, including AI-powered transaction categorization that intelligently sorts and codes financial transactions, and on-demand income statements. These embedded capabilities transform the typical lending workflow by eliminating manual data compilation, while also providing lenders and borrowers with immediate access to accurate, organized financial information.

“This partnership with Artis Trade demonstrates how our embedded services can deliver real value to both small businesses and lenders,” said Gordon Stuart, SVP Operations, Fintech & Embedded Services at Sage. “Small businesses benefit from streamlined financial management while lenders get the financial visibility they need to make better decisions. Embedded accounting isn’t just about efficiency anymore, it’s about reshaping how financial services can better serve SMBs.”

The building blocks of Sage embedded services1 are:

  • General ledger: The Sage secure APIs enable embedded service users to integrate robust general ledger capabilities, compliant with country-specific accounting regulations, into your application - removing the need to develop these capabilities from scratch.
  • Financial reporting: Embedded service customers can access and customize a library of reports with multi-dimensional capabilities, to get a view of financial health, from profitability to liquidity. They can share a complete set of management reports with their accountant, enabling them to assist with critical financial planning.
  • Insights and Analytics: Embedded service customers can view key metrics like income and expenses from financial reports in real-time and use them to drive business decisions. This ensures they stay updated on their finances even if they don’t have time to dig into the details.
  • Carbon Accounting: Embedded service customers can gain a competitive advantage with our API solution for measuring and reporting carbon emissions. Help your customers meet the latest sustainability standards, win more business, and take measurable steps toward net zero.
  • Connect with Accountant: Embedded service customers can be provided with the tools they need to seamlessly collaborate with their accountants. Sage for Accountants helps complex small businesses share data, streamline workflows, and simplify tax and business decisions.

These embedded building blocks deliver distinct advantages across the lending ecosystem:

For Small Businesses:
  • Simplified Financial Management: Seamless accounting capabilities from within the financial institution’s platform interface eliminate the need to toggle between multiple systems or manually manage financial data.
  • Time and Cost Savings: AI-backed transaction categorization reduces bookkeeping time and the need for costly external accounting services.
  • Real-Time Financial Insights: On-demand income statements empower business owners to make more informed decisions, manage cash flow effectively, and plan for growth.
  • Improved Access to borrowing: Clean, categorized financial data available within the financial institution's ecosystem, small businesses can demonstrate creditworthiness more easily, speeding up lending decisions.

For Lending Financial Institutions:

  • Enhanced Customer Engagement: By embedding accounting capabilities in the Artis Trade platform, financial institutions become a critical extension of a small business customer’s daily operational workflow, strengthening customer stickiness and increasing platform usage and adoption.
  • Faster, Smarter Financial Insights: Real-time, categorized transaction data and an up-to-date income statement give financial institutions access to accurate financial information faster, reducing dependence on outdated or manually prepared reports.
  • Proactive risk management and reduced credit risk: Better financial visibility into a small business’s cash flow and business health allows for proactive risk management and early intervention in case of financial stress signals. Ongoing client monitoring helps reduce potential credit risks and losses.
  • Upsell and Cross-Sell Opportunities: Deeper insights into business financials empower financial institutions to offer timely, relevant products such as credit lines, working capital loans, asset lending, equipment lending or cash advances, and treasury services, tailored to actual business needs.
  •  Operational Efficiency: Automation of data collection and financial reporting reduces manual document collection, verification effort, and processing time for loan applications and financial reviews.
