Tax Prep in Intuit Accountant Suite integrates ProConnect Tax Online into a unified, single platform, designed to eliminate context-switching and data silos.

Your firm can prepare, track progress, and e-file tax returns for all clients within Intuit Accountant Suite. You’ll be able to track tasks, assign team members and set due dates. You can customize tax preparation workflows and access control to fit your firm’s requirements.

Access Rights Required for Tax Prep for ProConnect Tax

To access Tax Prep, you must have an active Intuit Accountant Suite Core or Accelerate subscription, an active Intuit ProConnect Tax account, and be assigned one of the following firm roles:

  • Primary admin

  • Company admin

  • Standard all access

  • Standard limited customers and vendors

  • Standard limited customers only

  • No firm access (account management only)

  • Standard limited vendors only

  • Standard all access (no money movement)

  • Advanced tax and books admin

  • Advanced tax and books access

  • Advanced tax access limited customers only

To access or customize templates, manage custom statuses, and manage multiple assignee labels, you must have the Settings permission in Standard tax permissions (ProConnect Tax only) enabled.

Using Intuit Accountant Suite Tax Prep for ProConnect Tax

The Tax overview dashboard (illustrated below) shows you the status of all tax engagements. It tracks each engagement and shows the Federal e-file status for the return.

(1) In Intuit Accountant Suite, go to All Apps, then Work, then Projects.

(2) Then select Work and then choose Tax prep to open the Tax overview dashboard.

(3) Select Create tax engagement.

(4) Select the Tax Return to prepare.

(5) Complete the required information, and then select Save and Next.

(6) Assign specific team members to the Preparer, Reviewer, and Approver roles.

 (7) Select Save to return to the dashboard or Save and Start to open the new engagement immediately 

(8) Select a task to open the client's return in Intuit Accountant Suite. The screen display shifts to ProConnect Tax Online, showing elements that are relevant to the selected task. You can select any action shown in blue.

(9) A badge indicating ProTax Online has been accessed is displayed whenever a user opens ProTax Online within Intuit Accountant Suite.


(10) Complete the return and select e-file when you are ready to submit.

Customize Tax Workflow within Intuit Accountant Suite

You can create custom tax workflows that fit the specific needs of your firm.

(A) Within Intuit Accountant Suite, Go to All Apps, then Work, then Projects.

(B) Select Work and then choose Tax prep.

(C) Select Tax engagement settings.

(D) Select View next to any of the standard workflow templates.

(E) Select Make a copy and enter a name for the new template to create a custom version for your firm.


(F) Add or remove tasks and update statuses to match your firm's specific processes.

(G) Select Save. Your new workflow appears in the template dropdown when creating future tax engagements.
