Murph's Second Backup App Compare

Written by William Murphy | Aug 4, 2025 4:45:00 AM

See why the apps in Murph's App Comparison of Backup Solutions for QBO have changed from 10-months ago. Find out the latest leader in the marketplace based on Murph's App Comparison Criteria.

Even if you realize that you need a user-controlled backup for your QuickBooks Online account, you must then decide what solution you can use. Until recently, the QBO (US) App Store only listed a single company for backups, Rewind; however, upon closer inspection, you will find 'Skyvia' (that also provides backup options) listed under data-solutions

Although Intuit promotes your QuickBooks Online data as being secure in their promotional materials, the Intuit backup and recovery plan is designed to address cyberattacks, data breaches, or server failures that could impact the entire QBO platform. It's not available to restore data lost due to mistaken actions on the part of a user, or malicious or erroneous human behavior. In the service agreement you signed (electronically) when you first subscribed to QBO, Intuit explicitly states, “You are responsible for any lost or unrecoverable content… Intuit is NOT responsible for any content you submit through these Services.”

It's simple, Intuit is not responsible for restoring your data if the problem is not a system-wide issue. That's why you need a third-party Backup solution.

At this point, I must mention that there is an exception to what I said earlier about QBO lacking backup capabilities. QuickBooks Online-Advanced users have a Backup option as part of their subscription, giving them the ability to configure backups and restore options. But if you subscribe to any other QBO version, you will need to use a 3rd-party backup solution.

You might wonder then, "If Rewind and Skyvia are the only data services with backup offerings in the QBO App Store, what other alternatives do you have?"

But other backup solutions do exist, and just because apps don't seek to be listed in the app store (for a variety of reasons) doesn't mean they can't backup QuickBooks Online. But if they are not listed in the App store, it's hard to find out about them, what they do, how well they work, and if they are still 'out there.'

That's why you need to attend Murph's Backup App Comparison during August's Future Forward event on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM Eastern.

I've identified six (6) Backup solution providers that work with QuickBooks Online to securely backup and restore the data using the QBO Application Programming Interface (API). Four of these are not listed in the QBO (U.S.) App Store. Last year, when I compiled this App Comparison, there were also six solutions providers; however, since then, one of the apps I reviewed is still backing up files for users who started with it, but they are no longer accepting new subscribers.

On the other hand, another app, which entered the market 10 months ago, now offers backup capabilities for QuickBooks Online data, targeting accountants and consultants who want to provide backup services to their customers.

To see all of this chart you must attend the webinar.

However, it's also important to note that some solutions offer more capabilities than others, and they do a better job of keeping their solutions up-to-date in terms of data backup, retention, and restoration. So various features in my comparison compilation have changed, and prices have also been adjusted. That's why I have almost twenty (20) charts and graphs in the content you will see during the webinar, and receive if you qualify for CPE credit.

I'm sure you can see that now is the perfect time to attend Murph's Backup App Comparison during August's Future Forward event. The show will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM Eastern
