Keeping You Informed - Avalara Updates Partner Terms & Conditions

Avalara has announced changes to their Partner Terms and Condition effective October 1, 2026. With many of our readers participating in the Avalara Partner Program(s), we felt we should "keep you informed" of these changes.

As part of Avalara's commitment to keep Accountants and Consulting Partners aware of the terms and conditions under which they are incentivized, Avalara is updating their Accountant and Consulting Partner Terms and Conditions, effective October 1, 2026.

These updates are intended to clarify how financial incentives are calculated on multiyear contracts and make it easier for Accountant partners to qualify for Partner Tiers over time.

Probably one of the most significant changes can be found in the new method Avalara is adopting for calculating the 'Annual Value' by which Partner compensation is determined. As of October 1, 2026, Avalara is adopting a new 'Average Annual Value methodology for multiyear deals.' Rather than the exact dollar amount invoiced in a specific year, the new method calculates the contract's 'Average Annual Value' across the total contract period.

There are also new provisions governing the definition of 'Year' for compensation purposes, 'broader invoiced fee credit(s),' and 'payment timing language.'  So, while no specific action is required on the part of Avalara Partners, they do strongly recommend that all partners review the updated terms and conditions, to learn more about these provisions, as well as other matters impacting your Partner status and compensation.
